Twitter starts testing new 280 character limit for posts:

Prepare your fingers and ideas to tweet on Twitter because recently Twitter announced this Tuesday on 9/26, which started testing tweets of up to 280 characters, which is exactly double the current limit, which is 140 characters.

Tweeter product manager Aliza Rosen said in a post said “Our research has shown that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people tweeting in English. When people do not need to squeeze their thoughts into 140 characters and count on a few more characters, we see more people tweeting – which is amazing”.

According to twitter the test of 280 characters will conduct in all language expect Japanese, Chinese and Korean.

About the launch of novelty Aliza said that “While we feel confident about our data and the positive impact that this change will have, we want to test it with a small group of people before making a decision to launch the appeal for everyone. Most importantly, this works for our community – let’s collect data and gather feedback during this process. We hope that fewer tweets will bump into the limit of characters, which will make life easier for everyone at the time of tweeting”.

Company also cites an interesting piece of information in the its blog post about the test of new feature posts of 280 characters: 9% of English tweets reach the limit of 140 characters, while only 0.4% of Japanese tweets.
